New firmware for a non-operational Matshina UJDA750
« on: November 22, 2005, 12:35:18 PM »
It's the optical drive in a Toshiba Satellite M30, the Matshita UJDA750. It's a combo drive. I can't read CDs or DVDs, either burned or pressed. It makes a fair bit of noise when trying to load/spin up a disc, noise I'm sure it shouldn't (sort of zipping noises).

Toshiba doens't have any firmware releases for it.

I've been able to find 1.51 firmware for Sony and Sotec OEM drives over at: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1610 but I'm cautious about using them. The firmware is already 1.51 according to DVDInfoPro in any case.

I'm thinking replacement. Anyone know any generic DVD burners or DVD/CDRW combo drives that'd fit a silver/black Toshiba M30?

The best would be to check out the Toshiba site and getting one directly from them...

Have you tried booting the PC off CD just incase its an OS problem....

Did you find anything about the Samsung drive?

Oookkkaaayyyy.

Like I said, Toshiba doesn't have any. Yes, can't boot off of CD.

Samsung? If you're talking about a thread I did about a friends notebook, no, I haven't found any firmware updates for it yet. Haven't looked in a little while either, might give it another go.

I would say the drive is fried if it cant read pressed CD's.... What I meant was would toshiba have a replacement drive? They should stock drives for there PC's.

Probably. But I would like a cheaper one that burns DVDs (not a combo drive).

If anyone has can tell me either what I should try and put in, or if it's not possible, that'd be grand.

Harris Technology has some replacements but those are insanely priced at $500...

Unfortunately their minimum for international orders is $US300.

Anything closer to home perhaps?
